Growing for Our Future
La Finca de Hamberto is a small-scale, regenerative farm on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico, dedicated to fostering food sovereignty and ecological resilience.
As a proud member of the Vieques Agricultural Collective and home to the AVES educational initiative, we’re revitalizing local farming traditions, combating food insecurity exhausted by systemic challenges, and cultivating a vibrant, sustainable community.
From our USDA Organic produce to our thriving livestock, we’re nourishing Vieques and empowering the next generation of farmers.
We’re more than just a farm; we’re a movement to reclaim our agricultural heritage, strengthen local food systems, and provide educational opportunities through our AVES project – Apoyo en Vieques para la Educación y la Sostentabilidad (Support in Vieques for Education and Sustainability). By focusing on sustainable farming practices and community collaboration, we’re sowing the seeds for a more resilient and food-secure Vieques.
Situated on the beautiful island of Vieques, where reliance on fragile supply chains leaves us vulnerable, our farm serves as a beacon of self-sufficiency and a hub for agricultural innovation.
Our farm is home to a diverse array of livestock, including hardy goats, gentle sheep, and a lively flock of chickens, ducks, and geese. Integral to our regenerative farming practices, we prioritize their well-being as they contribute to our farm ecosystem and provide high-quality products.
We cultivate a diverse selection of native fruits and vegetables, embracing the rich agricultural heritage of farming in Puerto Rico. In working towards USDA organic certification in our fields, we ensure that every bite is grown and harvested with your health and the health of our island in mind.
Sustainability isn't just a buzzword for us; it's the foundation of everything we do at La Finca de Hamberto. We're dedicated to minimizing our environmental footprint through innovative practices of food forestry, silvopature, and agrovoltaics.
Through our AVES project, La Finca de Hamberto serves as an educational hub, offering invaluable agroforestry course opportunities and hands-on sustainable student farm experiences – skills vital for building a resilient agricultural future in Vieques.
Since 2018, we estimate we’ve rescued approximately 25,000 pounds of waste and prevented nearly 30 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions. This dedication aligns with the principles of climate smart agriculture and our vision for a truly sustainable food system in Vieques.
