Our Purpose

Cultivating Change

Vieques currently imports nearly 99% of its resources.
That statistic isn't just a number- it is a vulnerability.

Our purpose is rooted in food sovereignty. We believe that true resilience starts with the ability to feed yourself. By localizing food production, we are reducing dependence on fragile supply chains and ensuring that nutritious, culturally relevant food is always available to our neighbors.

We are reclaiming the narrative of agriculture in Puerto Rico. Farming is not just about labor; it is about liberation. It is about restoring the health of our people and the health of our island, one harvest at a time.

Regenerative Farming

Using rotational grazing and silvopasture to build soil health and restore biodiversity.

Circular Economy

Diverting 25,000+ lbs of waste from landfills to create compost and fuel our farm.

Rural Development

Supporting 100+ local farmers with the resources and training to thrive.

Our Journey

A Story of Growth and Commitment

La Finca de Hamberto began with a seed of necessity. In the wake of hurricanes and economic shifts, the fragility of the food system in Vieques became undeniable. We saw an island rich in potential but dependent on imports. We decided to change the equation.

What started as a small plot has blossomed into a hub for Rural Development. We are a collective of farmers, veterans, students, and neighbors working shoulder-to-shoulder. From the first seed planted, our history is defined by one thing: showing up. We show up for the land, we show up for the animals, and most importantly, we show up for each other.

Local Roots.
Global Resilience.

La Finca de Hamberto is more than a farm; we are a response to a critical need. Located on the island of Vieques, we are a USDA Organic, regenerative operation dedicated to revitalizing Puerto Rico’s agricultural heritage. We are growing a future where our community is fed by our own soil, not by a shipping container.

Our Commitment

Growing a Sustainable Future

Sustainability isn’t a trendy buzzword for us; its the foundation of our mission.

We use data to drive our decisions and nature to drive our results.

Waste Reduction

Since 2018, we have rescued approximately 25,000 pounds of waste from landfills. By turning food scraps into soil, we have prevented nearly 30 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions. We are closing the loop on consumption.

Renewable Energy & Agrivoltaics

We harness the Vieques sun twice. Our Agrivoltaics systems use solar panels to generate clean electricity while providing essential shade for our livestock and crops. We are actively developing biogas systems to turn manure into fuel, moving us toward total energy independence.

Biodiversity & Pollinators

A healthy farm buzzes. We maintain pollinator friendly spaces and are establishing a food forest to support bees, bats, and butterflies. We don’t use synthetic pesticides that harm our helpers; instead, we use nature’s balance to manage pests

Soil Health

Soil is our most valuable asset. Through Silvopasture  and rotational grazing, we prevent erosion and sequester carbon. We are not just sustaining the land; we are regenerating it for the next generation.
