Imagine solar panels providing clean energy and shade for our animals and crops! That’s the beauty of agrivoltaics. We’re exploring partnerships with solar farms to provide grazing services via our sheep, creating a symbiotic relationship where animals reduce foliage under the panels, and the panels offer much-needed shade. This innovative approach represents a truly efficient use of space and demonstrates our commitment to climate-smart agriculture. We are applying to the FACT and LASSO grants to introduce agrivoltaics and solar field grazing, aiming for a future where energy production and agriculture flourish hand-in-hand on Vieques.

Sustainable Energy meets Sustainable Farming
Harnessing energy from organic waste is a key component of our circular economy vision. Our biogas system aims to capture methane for energy, potentially fueling our cooking needs or even a pizza oven! While currently non-functional and dependent on pig manure, we are determined to troubleshoot and restart the system. The goal is to convert 5-10 pounds of food scraps into methane, providing a sustainable alternative to propane. Restarting this system requires dredging and restarting with pig or cow manure, and consulting the company for proper setup from the start. This project is a crucial step towards reducing our reliance on external resources and enhancing our sustainable food system
